Sen. Rubio honors JL Marine with Small Business Award
News & Press ReleasesSenator Marco Rubio recognized Power-Pole’s parent company, JL Marine Systems, as the U.S. Senate Small Business of the Week for the week of Feb. 15. The Florida Republican, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, made the announcement on Twitter on Friday.
“(JL Marine Systems founder) John Oliverio conceptualized the idea for a different type of shallow water anchor when he continually kept losing sight of fish while he was trying to stop his boat,” Rubio said via press release. ” Today, JL Marine Systems produces the Power-Pole, an extremely innovative shallow water anchor that allows fishermen to lower their anchor without taking their eyes off of their next catch.”
Senator Rubio will get a first-hand look at the facilities during a tour later this month.
“JL Marine systems is thrilled by this announcement,” J.L. Marine vice president Robert Shamblin said. “We are proud to be a company that upholds the American ethic of entrepreneurship and innovation and are honored to be recognized by Senator Rubio and his committee.”
The decision to recognize the Tampa-based company also stemmed from its work beyond the factory floor.
“Not only do they produce a unique and innovative product, JL Marine Systems also makes an impact in their community by supporting hurricane relief efforts, local youth sports leagues, and a number of events and fundraisers,” Rubio said. “Additionally, JL Marine Systems has been honored with a number of awards at various fishing industry conventions. John and the entire team at JL Marine Systems are an outstanding example of Florida’s innovation, and I am proud to honor them as the Senate Small Business of the Week.”
