The Canadian Competitor – Cory Johnston
ExclusiveLong-time Power-Pole pro angler, Cory Johnston, has been sporting the white, black, and orange since he was climbing his way up through the FLW ranks.
If there is one thing that Power-Pole looks for in its professional anglers it is passion, this canuck has it in spades. Johnston is truly living his childhood dream, at thirteen he told his parents “I want to fish for a living”. Upon hearing their sons’ life plans, they looked at him with expressions of concern but continued to support both Cory and his brother Chris over the years.
Today, Cory is doing just that. He has become an iconic Bassmaster Elite Angler and is always in the conversation to win no matter where the tournament trail takes him.
Cory Johnston’s track record is impressive in and of itself but what really sets this story apart is the fact that it was done twice! Younger brother, Chris Johnston, has managed to match beat for beat with his older brother. Joining him on the Bassmaster Elite trail, making every event a familial grudge match.
Off of the Elite Tour, the Johnston Brothers enjoy fishing many events as co-anglers, and if you thought they were scary independently imagine the brotherly synergy of them fishing from the same boat.
While you may say that Cory has already made it in the world of fishing, this competitive angler has his eyes set on elevating his dream. The Bassmaster Elites are just that, the most elite fishermen. However, Cory’s competitive spirit has driven him with the dream of hoisting three specific trophies: A Bassmaster Elite Trophy, a Bassmaster Classic Trophy, and a Bassmaster Angler of the Year Trophy and permanently cement himself as one of the best anglers to ever fish.
With these very specific goals in mind, Cory Johnston also has in mind
what his days will look like when he trades in the officiators and cameramen for his children, nieces, nephews, and perhaps a few prize Bucks. Johnston said, “My boys are getting big and love spending time in the woods and on the boat, so I’m doing my best to do that with them as much as I can”.
