Dylan Nutt Dominates: A Historic Win at the 2026 Bassmaster Classic

Exclusive . Featured Stories . News & Press Releases

Some wins are close. This wasn’t one of them.

At the Bassmaster Classic 2026, Dylan Nutt didn’t just win—he separated himself from the field in a way that left no room for debate. Competing on the Tennessee River, Nutt stacked up a three-day total of 66 pounds, 13 ounces, closing out the event with a staggering 9-pound, 5-ounce margin of victory. Against a field packed with the most elite anglers in the sport, it wasn’t just a win—it was a statement.

From Day One to Championship Sunday

Nutt didn’t start the event on top—but he never let himself fall out of contention. After Day 1, he sat in 5th place, chasing defending Classic champion Easton Fothergill. By the end of Day 2, everything had changed. Nutt surged into the lead and created separation, carrying a 3-pound, 15-ounce advantage into the final day.

Anchoring that surge was a massive 26-pound, 1-ounce limit—the largest single-day bag ever recorded on this fishery in Bassmaster Classic history—a performance that didn’t just move him into the lead, it rewrote what was possible on that stage.

From there, he never looked back.

While the rest of the field worked to close the gap, Nutt stayed locked into the pattern that got him there—expanding his lead and turning Championship Sunday into a formality. By the final weigh-in, the margin had grown to more than nine pounds, leaving no doubt about who owned the week.

The Path Nobody Takes—Until Now

What makes this win even more significant is how Nutt got there. Unlike much of the field competing on the Bassmaster Elite Series, Nutt qualified through the B.A.S.S. Nation pathway—a route that rarely produces a Classic champion and is often overlooked compared to the traditional professional track.

With this victory, Nutt becomes just the second angler in history to win the Classic through that path, proving that the route may be different—but the outcome can be the same when preparation meets opportunity.

Young, Fearless, and Already Delivering

At just 22 years old and still competing at the University of North Alabama, Nutt didn’t fish like an underdog—he fished like someone who expected to win. There was no hesitation, no second-guessing, and no moment that felt too big.

To step onto this stage while still balancing college competition and outperform a field of seasoned veterans isn’t just impressive—it’s a clear signal that the next generation of anglers has already arrived.

A Win That Changes the Conversation

Every Bassmaster Classic crowns a champion, but some wins carry more weight than others. This is one of those moments.

Nutt didn’t just outperform the field—he challenged the idea of what it takes to get here. His win reinforces that the path to the top is evolving, and that anglers coming up through non-traditional routes are just as capable of winning on the biggest stage in the sport.

Total Domination

Zoom out, and the story gets even bigger.

When the dust settled, Power-Pole anglers claimed 8 of the Top 10 spots—an overwhelming show of performance at the highest level of competition. Nutt led the way with the win, followed by Trey McKinney in 2nd, marking his second consecutive runner-up finish at the Classic. Yui Aoki finished 3rd, followed by Easton Fothergill in 4th and JT Thompkins in 5th. Drew Cook (7th), Jordan Lee (8th), and Dakota Ebare (9th) rounded out a leaderboard that made one thing clear:

This wasn’t just a win. It was control across the board.

The One That Sticks

Years from now, the Bassmaster Classic will have another name etched into its history—but this one will stand out. Not just because of the weight, or the margin, or the moment, but because of what it represented.

A different path.
A new level of confidence.
And a performance that made it all undeniable.

Dylan Nutt.
