Congratulations to 2020 Classic Champ Hank Cherry

Events . Featured Stories . News & Press Releases

The 50th annual Bassmaster Classic in Alabama proved once again that when the Power-Pole anchors go down, the trophies go up.

Hank Cherry Jr is the 2020 Bassmaster Classic champion after a three-day total of 65-5. With the exception of the first half of the final day, Cherry led the tournament almost wire-to-wire before hoisting the trophy on bass fishing’s stage.

“When I caught that biggest bass on a jerkbait (Sunday), I felt some redemption,” Cherry said afterward. “I’ve learned a lot — and I’m still learning. I learned from this event how to handle the situation when you start with a big lead and have to protect it. I learned that your body will do wild things when you need that last fish to seal the deal, but you have to work through it.

“Those kinds of things make for an amazing feeling — and once it sinks in that I won this thing, I think that will be the most amazing feeling of all.”

It was a great showing for Power-Pole with every member of the Super Six sporting Power-Pole anchors on their boat as they paraded through the BJCC Legacy Arena in Birmingham.

Todd Auten, the last man in the hot seat, finished in second place with a three-day total of 58-10. Stetson Blaylock rounded out the Power-Pole trifecta in the top three at 58-1.

Auten also took home the Berkley Big Bass Award for the event with a 7-pound, 9-ounce fish that he caught during Day 1.

If you missed out on any of the action of this year’s Classic, be sure to check out our live blog from the event here. The Power-Pole media team covered the action all week from the opening practice on Lake Guntersville to the final weigh-in at the BJCC Arena. Congratulations from all of us at Power-Pole Total Boat Control.
